Durrants Building Consultancy offers a comprehensive range of architectural services from our experienced Architect and Technologists team working together on a wide variety of projects throughout East Anglia.
Our high quality design approach begins by close liaison with the client to interpret and establish the brief and once this is ascertained we work with the client throughout the entire design process to ensure their requirements are met. Our aim is to combine the best of traditional and contemporary design to create buildings that will stand the test of time and enrich the environment.
We use industry standard design software including Autodesk AutoCAD, Revit and SketchUp. We offer high quality drawings for all stages of a project and also provide 3D visualisations to help clients understand the scale of the design.
A feasibility study investigates the potential for the development of a site or building, setting out a brief history of the site and the potential it has to be a workable scheme. All our feasibility studies are tailored to meet the client’s needs and budgets. It can range from a simple assessment to an in-depth review of the site history and its potential use. We work closely with our Chartered Town Planner to ensure any potential scheme is initially feasible from a planning point of view before then guiding the client to the next stages of the project.
Durrants have developed a considerable number of new build dwellings across Norfolk and Suffolk varying from modest, single storey dwellings to luxurious one-off family homes and a variety of both small and large scale housing developments.
We will take into account your aspirations, needs and overall budget, whatever size of project you have.
Extensions to your home can be highly personalised in terms of size and finish and we will ensure that the proposals produced meet all of your needs, no matter how large or small.
When considering an extension, it is important to identify how the extra space will benefit your home and whether you are utilising the existing space to its maximum potential.
Often a remodel will drastically help with the effectiveness of any extension. Modifying the internal layout of a dwelling can often be fairly simple but can transform the function of a space.
Loft conversions are an excellent and cost effective way of extending a property where outside space may be limited. It allows the creation of an additional space whilst having minimal impact on the appearance of the existing property.
As part of our service we investigate different options for the layout including the placement of stairs, additional windows and fire escape requirements.
We will also organise and liaise with a Structural Engineer to assist with the design of the existing supporting structure.
Throughout Norfolk and Suffolk, we have a vast amount of agricultural land and beautiful open countryside. Within this there are a number of redundant barns and farm buildings which are no longer viable for agricultural use due to various reasons, such as changes in farming technology, and these buildings have often been neglected and fallen into disrepair. However, due to the planning changes with Class Q permitted development, barns have now become increasingly popular for conversions into dwellings to allow people to make use of these redundant buildings and live in the countryside where new development would not normally be permitted.
With Durrants agricultural heritage dating back to 1853, we have considerable experience in designing barn conversions ensuring detail and attention is focused on the historic fabric of the building. We utilise the original features, spaces and heights to create impressive interiors or alternatively, with more recent structures, a contemporary approach to the conversion can often be very successful; either way we can create a stunning individual home ideal for modern living.
Durrants have a wide range of experience in the commercial sector with projects including retail; haulage; garden centres; fitness centres; multi-use developments; storage and offices.
Our skilled design team can provide new commercial schemes, additions to existing buildings and internal or external alterations to enhance your commercial property.
We spend time with you to ensure the brief is fully explored and work with other consultants if necessary to deliver the project.
We have worked on a variety of listed buildings around Norfolk and Suffolk, particularly timber framed buildings with Grade II status. We work closely with local authority heritage officers at an early stage to ensure the correct design approach is implemented to ensure a successful outcome.
We have extensive expertise in specifying building materials to use on listed building fabrics including lime renders, hemcrete and clay lump, which is commonly found in East Anglia. Whether you are thinking of extending, converting or refurbishing your listed property then please get in touch.
Most building work in the UK is required to comply with the latest standards as set out in the Building Regulations Approved Documents. Building Regulations set standards for the design and construction of buildings, primarily to ensure the health and safety for people in or around those buildings, but also for energy conservation, fire safety and access. We work with both local authority and private building control inspectors to help prepare and submit your building control application.
A building control application will usually consist of annotated technical drawings with cross sections of the building, details, dimensioned layouts and accompanying notes and construction specification. We can organise and liaise with a Structural Engineer to undertake the structural design and calculations and we can also arrange for SAP reports to be produced to accompany the building regulation application.
