New Dwelling - Listed Setting
Location: Hoxne - Suffolk
Date: January 2014
Durrants successfully negotiated planning consent for an infill development in Hoxne, Suffolk. Set within the grounds of a Grade II listed farm cottage, the development comprises a four bedroom, double storey house with integral double garage. Planning challenges were significant, notably ensuring the design responded positively to the setting of the listed cottage. The design features open plan living at first floor to maximise views across the Suffolk countryside. The first floor celebrates solid timber framing in the form of expressed oak frames. A large balcony features in the eastern elevation, adding an outdoor ambience to the first floor living areas.
Residential - New Dwelling
Location: Rockland All Saints - Breckland
Date: February 2015
Durrants gained planning permission and building regulations approval for a replacement dwelling with detached garage/workshop. The house replaced a bungalow of low grade construction that was in a state of poor repair. The roof is set at a pitch based on local vernacular for traditional clay plain tiles and the hips and gables gives the building appropriate visual balance. Sustainability features include low carbon heating and power solar panels to the south facing roof and a rainwater harvesting tank that provides water for toilets, washing machine and external taps, saving up to 50% water consumption of an average home.
Residential - Side Garden Building Plot
Location: Diss - South Norfolk
Durrants successfully secured planning consent in early 2017 for the creation of a building plot within the side garden of a property in Diss. Although a tightly constrained site, through careful siting and design, permission was gained for a three bedroom, two storey dwelling with integral garaging. The approved dwelling takes its design cues from the surrounding estate development, ensuring the building will appear as a sensitive addition to the area once built. The securing of planning permission has realised a significant uplift in the value of the property.
